About the Future of Coach
In January 2009, design students from universities across the UK were challenged to design Leger Holidays and coach manufacturer, Setra, a coach of the future.
Students were asked to consider what coach travel will be like up to 25 years from now and submit their designs and rationale. Students from design courses at Coventry, Huddersfield, Northumbria, Teesside and Swansea University took part in the competition, all competing to win a visit to SETRA’s global HQ and research and design centre at its Neu Ulm-based headquarters.
Students were provided with a detailed brief and asked to consider the following factors:
• Interior and exterior aesthetic
• Safety
• Fuel
• Comfort
• Navigation
• Entertainment
• Materials and construction
• Future proposed legislation affecting the coach travel industry
They were also asked to consider Leger Holidays and its target audience and Setra’s design history.
A shortlist of 12 designs has now been chosen from all of the entries that were received with a panel of expert judges is considering the work and choosing the overall winner.
The final winner will be announced in September when the university term starts again – with details to be published on this site as soon as they are available.
You can view all of the entries on this site and vote for your favourite.
